The Project
Think you know New Jersey?
Have you…
- tasted blueberry champagne?
- sampled honey from a local bee hive?
- caught a brook trout in a local stream?
- sailed on the schooner A.J. Meerwald?
- attended a Lenape Indian dance?
- touched the claws of Hadrosaurus, the official state dinosaur of New Jersey?
This volume of NJ Southbound, a multimedia magazine created by journalism students at Rowan University, uses the list of official state symbols as the inspiration for a series of unique stories.
We started with the recognized icons of New Jersey – like the state slogan, flower, bird and sea shell – then widened our searched to include people, places, and traditions that serve as unofficial symbols of the culture and identity of the Garden State.
We hope you enjoy reading, listening, and watching these stories. If you like what you see, help spread the word.
